The Community Redevelopment Agency wants to fill 10,000 square feet of the vacant space on the first floor of the Old School Square Parking Garage with nonprofit art groups. The request for proposals went out to sublease the ground floor retail space, an area that's part of the Pineapple Grove Arts District and a prime location at the intersection of Northeast Second Avenue and Northeast First Street.
"The CRA is looking for nonprofit artists and cultural-based organizations that can promote cultural tourism, enhance the city's identity as a cultural arts community, create jobs and help generate pedestrian activity along Pineapple Grove Way. Up to six artists or organizations may be chosen to occupy a portion of the approximately 10,000-square-foot space that the CRA is leasing from the city of Delray Beach," said CRA Economic Development Director Fransisco Perez-Azua.
Some of the proposed art usages for the downtown retail space include performance, dance, music, multimedia, film and visual art, Perez-Azua said other uses would also be considered. Proposals are due to the CRA office by 2 p.m. March 30.
