The city's Community Redevelopment Agency has won an award for establishing the Neighborhood Resource Center at 141 SW 12th Ave. The 2007 Roy F. Kenzie Award for Management Program/Creative Partnership will be presented at the Florida Redevelopment Association Awards Luncheon Oct. 25 in Daytona Beach.

The CRA contributed $462,000 to the Neighborhood Resource Center, which houses the United Way Prosperity Center, Delray Beach Community Land Trust and office space for other programs. The Southwest Neighborhood Associations and community organizations have used the center's conference room for meetings. Classes and workshops focused on community involvement also are part of the center's weekly schedule.

"This year, the Delray Beach CRA applied for awards in three separate categories, taking the award in the Management Program/Creative Partnership category for the Neighborhood Resource Center," said Elizabeth Butler, CRA marketing and grants coordinator.

Since the center opened Aug. 23, 2006, it has helped residents by giving them direct access to valuable services and assistance that improves quality of life, which is part of the CRA's mission statement.

"It is a wonderful facility and it has made a large impact on our community in a short time," Butler said "Both the city of Delray Beach and the CRA continue to look for new ways to empower our residents, and the [center] seemed to fit well into the fabric of our community."
