Four big transformations to single-family homes highlighted

Delray Beach, Fla.

The Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency recognized four outstanding projects completed under the Curb Appeal Residential Improvement Program in a special awards presentation on July 22, 2010. Awards were presented to the homeowners at the beginning of the CRA workshop held in the City Commission Chambers.

Two completed projects were selected under each of the award categories, Most Improved and Best Maintained. Each homeowner received a certificate of recognition and four passes to the Cornell Museum of Art & American Culture, donated by the Old School Square Cultural Arts Center. 

The Curb Appeal grant program offers single-family homes up to $10,000 toward the cost of exterior improvements such as landscaping and irrigation, driveway repair, painting, mailboxes and house numbers. Each of the award-winning projects demonstrates how minor improvements can result in dramatic transformations that help improve the overall look of a neighborhood.

“It’s great because you can combine the Curb Appeal program with infill housing, and it’s the quickest way to change a whole block,” said Lula Butler, Community Improvement Director. The Community Improvement Department administers the program for the CRA through its Neighborhood Services Division.

Curb Appeal is available in the Northwest and Southwest Neighborhoods in the CRA District. Twelve homes have been assisted since its creation in 2007.

“We’re all excited about the changes we see happening, and we’ve gotten a great response from the community,” said CRA Executive Director Diane Colonna. “There’s even a waiting list for the program now.”
